The Second Vatican Council in Rome in its decree on communications (Inter Mirifica) said that "the Church believes that its task involves employing the means of social communication to announce the good news of salvation.” This blog is part of that process by the Diocese of Arundel & Brighton to communicate that same good news about Jesus Christ.

New Canons for Arundel Cathedral Chapter
Bishop Kieran and the Chapter of Canons welcomed Fr Bill Davern and Fr Tom Treherne as new Canons of the Cathedral Chapter on Sunday 6th June at Solemn Vespers. Bishop Kieran reminded them that being a Canon was not about career advancement but a recognition of their service to the people of the diocese. He said that one of the roles of the Chapter of Canons was to be a repository of history in the diocese and a source of advice and wisdom for the Bishop.
Canon Tony Whale, the new Provost of the Chapter of Canons led the service offering prayers and welcome for the two new Canons. Fr Tom from Weybridge and Fr Bill from Epsom were joined by parishioners from their parishes who joined in the service of installation and evening prayer. They came down from Surrey to show their support and honour of their two parish priests in this new role.
The picture shows Bishop Kieran flanked to the left by Canon Tom and to the right Canon Bill. The remainder of the Chapter of Canons present at the Installation surrond their new colleagues and Bishop.
