St Peter's School Guildford Celebrates Opening of New Sixth Form Centre

The celebration including Mass for the Feast of Peter and Paul was a truly marvellous and memorable day for St Peter’s in Guildford. The day was led by Bishop Kieran together with members of other schools, parishioners, parents and members of the local community. there Bishop Kieran said it is almost unbelievable that only a year ago we held the Community Mass on the site and now there is a state of the art Sixth Form Building there ready for use!

The Mass was attended by 1500 guests and everyone received prayer cards with a specially written prayer on it to keep. They were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Guildford Councillor Marsha Moseley and her consort Councillor Nigel Manning, and the Mayor of Waverley Councillor Carole Cockburn and her consort Alisdair Cockburn. Other guests included Baroness Sharp of Guildford, the Headteachers of their four feeder schools together with students representing their schools. They were many others there from the Diocese and elsewhere including MCS, the builders and Gerry Lytle, the Architects.

At the end of Mass the whole congregation followed Bishop Kieran down to the Sixth Form Centre. Bishop Kieran proceeded to commission the new Head Students and then formally open the Sixth Form Centre to rapturous applause accompanied by more music from the students.

A fuller story should appear in a future edition of the A&B News
