Catenians Support Lourdes Pilgrimage

Fr Ian accepting the cheque from Bernard Sanderson, President of Eastbourne Catenian Circle
At the annual Eastbourne Catenian Circle Clergy Night last February, there was an extra guest in attendance for a very special reason! Apart from many of the local clergy who were welcomed to the gathering there was also Fr Ian Byrnes, Pilgrimage Spiritual Director of the Arundel & Brighton Diocesan Pilgrimage. Fr Ian was there on behalf of the Pilgrimage Trust to receive a cheque for £1206 to give financial assistance to Eastbourne Young Helpers who support the sick on pilgrimage - particularly when families cannot afford the travel expenses for these young people who so selflessly give their time & effort, and without whom the pilgrimage could not be so successful.

The money was raised over Christmas from donations to the 2010 Catenian Circle 186 Christmas Card appeal - a clever mechanism that enables all brothers (and wives) to convey their Christmas fraternal greetings to one another and yet at the same time channel the saved cash to a nominated charity! All brothers had agreed that supporting our Catholic youth in this way was an excellent use of the money to the benefit of many pilgrims.
