Farewell to Sister Philomena

Sister Philomena and Father Chris Spain taken by Michael Haywood
Sue Lee from Holy Redeemer Hollington reports: "On Saturday 30th May there was a special Thanksgiving Mass at the Holy Redeemer to say farewell to Sister Philomena McGroarty. Sister Philomena has been the Hospital Chaplain and a parishioner of the Holy Redeemer for the last sixteen years. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Chris Spain, the Dean; Father Ian Byrnes, our Parish Priest, and Father Desmond Baker. Father Chris and Father Ian first met Sister Philomena when they were in parishes in Brighton.

She will be greatly missed both in our parish and in the Deanery, especially for her work in the Chaplaincy; where she set up a support team of parishioners from the Deanery, who visited Catholics in the hospital daily.

After Mass there was a Buffet in the hall prepared by the Union of Catholic Mothers with food donated by parishioners. After cutting the beautifully decorated cake Sister Philomena was presented with gifts from both Holy Redeemer and St Thomas’ parishes and we wished her well in her new appointment with Our Lady of the Missions in Dublin."
