Bandstand Banter - Global Fairtrade and Local Cooperation

Bishop Kieran, Henry Smith MP and Mayor with supporters
Crawley Parish reports:
"Bishop Kieran Conry, Henry Smith MP, Crawley Mayor Keith Blake and Sally Blake, the Mayor’s wife, together with several councillors and local dignitaries demonstrated their support for Fairtrade recently.

Along with shoppers and passersby, they enjoyed a cup of freshly brewed, fairly traded, tea, coffee or hot chocolate served by members of the Crawley Fairtrade team, Crawley Interfaith Network and crews from assorted groups and communities from in and around Crawley at the Bandstand in Crawley town centre.

Their assistance was greatly appreciated. The event provided the opportunity for all those interested to contribute ideas and suggestions concerning the prospect of seeking Fairtrade status for Crawley, a standard conferred by the Fairtrade Foundation on those towns, villages and other communities and organisations able to demonstrate their consistent commitment to the Fairtrade ideal.

Their encounter was well met and some very constructive exchanges took place. No doubt we’ll see the fruits of their collaboration in due course - and so hopefully will the World’s Fairtrade producers.
