Catholic Scout Group Builds Purpose Built Scout Hall

Members of 17th Reigate (St Joseph's) Scout Group
17th Reigate (St. Joseph’s) Scout Group has taken a large step forward towards its goal of building its own Scout Hall after planning permission was granted. The Group is the largest youth-group in the Parish of the Nativity of the Lord in Redhill, Merstham, and Reigate with around 120 young people between 6 and 18 years old, and is and one of the very few Catholic Scout Groups in Surrey. The Group is temporarily without a permanent home following the re-development of the old Parish hall and is fund-raising towards a target of £150,000 to build a purpose-built meeting place which will secure the future of the Group for the next fifty years.

Speaking at the Group’s recent AGM, Tony Brown (fund-raising lead) announced that the Group had reached one-third of its target: “we have now raised over £50,000 in the last twelve months”, said Tony, “and this not only represents a lot of hard work by a lot of people but is also a significant milestone since it enables us to apply for larger grants.” Recent fund-raising activities have included bag-packing, a race night, moving (and selling) 50 years’ worth of Times newspapers, and entry into the second-hand car market when we were donated a vintage Austin Maxi!
