Eastbourne Parishioner Becomes a Consecrated Virgin

Mary Rose prostrate during the Litany of the Saints
At Our Lady of Ransom Eastbourne last autumn at 7.30 pm on the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary, with Bishop Richard Moth presiding Mary Rose Bracuti was consecrated as a 'Bride of Christ '. It is a ceremony that is rarely seen and is one of the most ancient rites of the early Church. The consecration of the whole of life, the Consecration of Virginity to the person of Jesus Christ.

Mary Rose Bracuti listened with the ear of her heart to the Lord's call to fulfil her vocation as a Consecrated Virgin. The life she has been called to, is to live a consecrated life in the world. She lives a consecrated life for the parish community and the world around her. Mary Rose committed her life solely and utterly to the person of Jesus giving her whole being to the love of God, the God who called her to this way of life.

Over two hundred people including family and friends gathered in a wonderful celebration of prayer with Fr Raglan Hay Will and Fr Gerard Hatton who have been supporting her on her journey. The parish took great delight in preparing and being involved in the ceremony ensuring it was a very special occasion for Mary Rose.

Mary Rose greets Bishop Richard
Mary Rose's discernment began seven years ago during that time she has had formation and guidance. As well as receiving direction she has been living a life of apostolic service and solitary prayer, together with ongoing study of the scriptures. Under the direction and guidance of Bishop Richard Mary Rose has formed  a rule of life and a year ago in the chapel of Our Lady of Ransom took her vows as a novitiate.

One of the marks of Mary Rose's rule of life is simplicity, simplicity of life dedicated to God. A life wholly dedicated to the life of Christ. A life dedicated to the service of her brothers and sisters.

The parish and the Diocese give thanks to God for Mary Rose's self giving to God for her openness to his call that was celebrated. In the promptings of the Holy Spirit, Mary Rose had the strength and courage to answer His call. Mary Rose will continue to teach at St Thomas a Becket Catholic Primary School where she is the RE Subject Leader for KS1 and KS2.

A&B News Volunteer Honoured by Bishop Richard Moth

Bishop Richard Moth hands St Philip Howard Certificate to Tony Northeast
Tony Northeast was honoured with the diocese’s St Philip Howard medal by Bishop Richard at the conclusion of the annual Advent Celebration Mass at the St Philip Howard Centre on 12th December.

After retiring from work on a national newspaper in 2004, Tony joined the A&B News Editorial Team at DABCEC and worked as a volunteer editorial assistant for the next 14 years. He contributed significantly to special issues and supplements, including the diocesan 50th anniversary edition, but will probably be best known for developing the ‘From the Parishes’ section, building and maintaining contacts with many parish correspondents.

Due tribute was paid to Tony’s professionalism, attention to detail, integrity of reporting and high standards by the paper’s current editor, who remarked that Tony was also ‘an oasis of calm’ in the midst of a busy news office.
